My ISM work this week was fairly light. I got halfway through my mentor assignment, which was to read certain parts of Chapter 7 in a textbook called Genetics in Medicine. The previous week I read Chapters 1 and 2, but my mentor decided skipping to 7 would be more beneficial. In fact, even though I was only halfway through, I found it immensely useful in that I learned some new genetic terminology and also the basics of different types of disorder inheritance (X-linked, autosomal, dominant, and recessive). This week, my goal before my next mentor meeting on Tuesday is to complete my assignment and finish reading through.

Another goal I have before my next mentor meeting is finish up reading through the GeneReview article for the CDFR gene in cystic fibrosis. This is so I can obtain the information I need on the disease for my original work, and I hope that this article will be provide everything I need. If not, I will look to other sources. Dr. Sullivan has offered to answer questions and elucidate anything I am confused by on GeneReview, so I want to use that to my advantage.

Finally, I will be choosing a topic and creating a presentation before Thursday. My goal by the end of tomorrow is to decide my topic and the key points I will be presenting. Hopefully, this week goes by with more progress than the last one!
