This week was one of my weaker ones for ISM, in that I was not able to achieve much. I was able to complete the portion of Chapter 7, and by complete I mean take notes on a Google Doc and reinforce the information. I look forward to discussing the material in my next mentor meeting, but it all depends on how the power outages will play out this week. I have also finished reading a news article my mentor sent to me, which is something I specifically requested she assign every meeting because it would tie in current events & make genetics more relatable for me. It was quite interesting, at least more than Chapter 7 was, and I was intrigued by the complexity of the patient's situation. I continue to look through the GeneReview article for cystic fibrosis--I have much left to do, but I'm hoping I finish the research by next week. Currently, I am identifying the important internal & external phenotypes of the disease. I hope to start researching Down syndrome soon, as my mentor has sent a PDF from the American Academy of Pediatrics. I might have used another GeneReview article, but I wasn't able to find anything useful on Down syndrome in the site, so I'm glad my mentor came in clutch.
