These past two weeks were far less intensive than usual. I made sure to relax during break, but I did manage to get an interview on the Monday before Thanksgiving. The interview was interesting, but I found that I've been getting similar answers to the questions I've been asking in my interviews. It's time for me to change things up and modify my questions to generate more unique answers. That is something I will do before my next interview, now that I recognize that issue. The clinical geneticist I interviewed referred me to two new contacts at Cook's Children's Hospital, and he even gave me a neat trick to finding their work emails. He also gave me some great advice to ask other interviewees in the future the steps to become a geneticist. I felt a bit stupid for not thinking of that, but regardless, it's been added to my list of interview questions. This week, I've been following up with some contacts who were interested in an interview but never replied with a preferred time. Mr. Pirtle set me on the right path, and I'm now writing thank you cards to the people I've interviewed--something that I forgot to do before. This week, I'm going to start focusing on my mentor search. I have one geneticist I interviewed earlier in mind--Dr. Sullivan--who had great qualities that I think would make her a great mentor. Before I set up a 2nd meeting, I want to take the time, maybe a week, to conduct some more interviews so I don't feel like she's my only option.
